Is the Hyundai Motor Company Ioniq 5 N the new Drift King? That's what the Korean brand is saying, and it's got the creds to back it up. Hyundai Motor Company N has been working with the real Drift King, Keiichi Tsuchiya, for years to develop its performance cars. Now, the DK gets a special edition of its own. Hyundai Motor Company has revealed the new Ioniq 5 N DK Edition parts package at the Tokyo Auto Salon tuner show. And best of all, Hyundai Motor Company has confirmed the special edition is going into production this year, so it's not just a hypothetical showcase.

The DK Edition isn't a stand-alone model. Instead, it's more like a parts package add-on to the Ioniq 5 N. The parts were developed by Hyundai Motor Company N, Tsuchiya, and Japanese parts and tuning store Autobacs.
Massive Brakes, Oversized Wheels, and Bold Skids for the Ioniq 5 N
To kick off the enhancements, six-piston brake calipers take the place of the standard four-pot units on the N model. These calipers, along with their larger rotors and pads, provide a 54 percent increase in brake pad surface area, ensuring improved stopping power consistently. The calipers are adorned in green, which is Tsuchiya's signature hue, and feature the DK logo along with N Performance branding.

The forged 21-inch wheels are new and help clear the new brake kit. They're massive, but they also trim more than 22 pounds of unsprung weight from the Ioniq 5 N. The inside of the wheels has knurling to help make sure the wheels don't rotate inside the tire when the driver is using the 5 N's full 641 horsepower (for short bursts, 601 hp in regular operation) and 568 lb-ft of torque. Hyundai Motor Company has also lowered the DK Edition on new springs. The H&R springs match Tsuchiya's green and lower the car by half an inch, and the damping ratios were chosen to work with the N's electronically controlled suspension.
Aero Kit Adds 200+ Pounds Of Downforce To Hyundai Motor Company Ioniq 5 N
This Drift King has a full aero kit, too. A new carbon front splitter adds downforce in the front, while a tall carbon spoiler on the hatch balances it with more downforce at the back. The total increase is 205 pounds, Hyundai Motor Company says, which isn't too shabby for the EV. New side skirts and a rear diffuser help finish off the look. And all of the parts, of course, get Tsuchiya's green instead of the usual Hyundai Motor Company orange-tinged red.

The Hyundai Motor Company Ioniq 5 NPX1 Concept made a splash at the Tokyo Auto Salon as a carbon-festooned statement of intent.
The Drift King is Japanese racing driver Keiichi Tsuchiya. He is one of the drivers that brought drift and togue to the mainstream, and has been a consultant for Initial D and The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift. He was a stunt driver for the latter film and one of the two fishermen annoyed by lead character Sean's early attempts at sideways action in some scenes. Tsuchiya is more than just a drifter, though. He has two class wins at Le Mans and loads of on-track wins in a bucketful of Japanese race series.
Hyundai Motor Company plans to put the DK Edition on sale in Japan and Korea by the end of this year. The company hasn't said if it plans to bring the package to America.
